One Day, third time

Dex and Em, Em and Dex.
Yes, it's true- I'm reading David Nicholls "One Day" for the third time. And it's the greatest reading experience! I wonder if I'll ever get sick of this wonderful book. Probably not. But what is it about this story that touches me? Well, there are many reasons. For one I am totally psyched about love stories that are different than all the others- and that one is for sure very different. Another reason might be Nicholls himself. He writes so freaking beautifully! I started marking the sentences or parts in the book that are especially clever or just very charming. And I have to say that my version of "One Day" might be considered as a coloring book. And the most important reason is that I am in love with the protagonists. I would totally fall for Dexter Mayhew if I met him. And as a girl I feel very close to Emma. Especially in the first part of the book I can fully understand Emma Morley, I feel the same right now: lost and self-conscious. Like Emma I have dreams that I don't know how to follow. OK, probably any girl between eighteen and twenty feels like Emma. I like reading about the doubts I have from another point-of-view. I could go on writing about Emma and Dexter for a long (!) time but I think it would get very personal at some point. So personal that no one but me could understand what I'm babbling about. My friends probably know what I'm talking about. :)

And for everyone that hasn't read that grrreat book yet: READ IT! IMMEDIATELY!

Here some of those wonderful marked quotes:

Alison (Dexter's mother) and Dexter talking about smoking:

A: 'It's not clever, you know. I know you think it makes you look like a film star, but it doesn't, it looks awful.'
D: 'So why do you do it then?'
A: 'Because it makes me look sensational.'

Some word from the most beautiful love letter in literature (I wish to get one like that one day!):

- When will you stop trying to educate me, I wonder? Never I hope.

- I think you're scared of being happy, Emma (...) Failure and unhappiness is easier because you can make a joke out f it.

- You're gorgeous, you old hag, and if I could give you just one gift ever for the rest of your life it would be this. Confidence. It would be the gift of Confidence. Either that or a scented candle

- Dex and Em, Em and Dex. Call me sentimental, but there's no-one in the world that I'd like to see get dysentery more than you.

I could go on for ever but I won't. Just read the book.

p.s. I am so looking forward to the movie (tho I know it's never gonna be as good as the book)

'...and then in return you made her so happy':
